It has a low energy eco friendly 230 watt halogen lamp, which for the
technically minded costs less to run, but is the equivalent of the old grade D 300 watt halogen lamp. This
gives colour images at night due to the automatic nature of the halogen light.
The
GuardCam has a High resolution digital camera, giving clear pictures either in video or still frame.The
built in DVR records straight onto the 2 Gigabyte SD[Secure Digital] memory card. To the non
technical mind what this really means is you can have 1500 still images, or up to 750 twenty second videos. The
when the SD card is full it overwrites the earliest images.
It is so important to know exactly when an incident takes place so the GuardCam has a
simple to set up time and date setting function. Every recording can thus be dated and times, with
an internal back up battery in case of power failure so the settings remain.
When you want to see evidence of an Intruder or unwelcome visitor then there is an SD
to USB convertor, so all you have to do is remove the SD card, insert it into the convertor and then
plug it into your PC’s USB port, nothing could be simpler. It will play in Windows media Player and be stored
as well
Using PIR[Passive Infra Red ] technology Guardcam can detect intruders up to 12 metres
away, and the motion detector has an integral photocell which can be set to activate at times wanted
by the user. What is very helpful is the fact that the GuardCam’s PIR can be adjusted so it isn’t triggered by animals or passing traffic,
and the time control can be adjusted as to the length of time the halogen lamp will remain on after it is
triggered for the first time.
Possibly one of the best features is the Audible Alert Speaker, with three
messages to choose from when it is activated, although you can have the voice function deactivated. “Warning
you are trespassing,” “Warning you
are being captured on Video,” and last but not least
a barking dog, which is real enough to make you jump, and certainly works.
The Guardcam has a mode selection option where you can opt for sound, light,
video at night, sound plus video in the daytime, and so on.
Finally the vital SD card and time date controls are secured behind a waterproof door only opened
with the supplied allen key.
GuardCam Conclusions
The GuardCam Security Floodlight and Camera is
well designed, and well made, and looks the part.
The 230 watt halogen light works very well, and is certainly offputting. The camera certainly captures movement,
but perhaps not the best quality picture. The audio message is effective although the barking dog is somewhat
unreal.
In terms of installation the instructions, and the manual are good, making installation quick and simple. This is a
five star product with nothing around with the alternative modes of use that comes close to it, and at a good
price
