Features of a Top Class Night Vision Security Camera

In an ideal world any night vision outdoor security system would have four features  

Good Positioning of the Surveillance Camera 

The first would be simply the presence of an outdoor security camera in the kind of position that would cover likely access points to the house, and is very visible. This would act as a deterrent because no potential intruder wants to be filmed. Ideally the camera should be out of reach, and give the appearance of working, because very few intruders will take the risk of being filmed.
Dummy security cameras can deter equally well, but you would have no evidence that a break in took place if your house was entered and things were stolen. 

The surveillance camera should have a passive infrared sensor[PIS] 

Secondly the surveillance camera should have a passive infra red sensor that would pick out movement in the dark, and start recording so that an intruder was aware he was under surveillance, and being filmed. Again dummy night vision cameras will do this, and have a considerable deterrent effect, again without giving you any evidence about people or vehicle registration plates. 

The surveillance camera should light up the area picked out by the PIS 

Thirdly there should be some kind of floodlight type flashlight which not only lights up an intended intruder, thus making them easier to see on camera, but also scares them away. A sudden very bright light surrounding an intruder will scare even the most determined away. 

The surveillance camera should be equipped with an audio facility 

Finally there should be some kind of audio alert. A voice which may tell the intruder they are trespassing and on camera, should be enough to really scare them away. Even an audio of a dog barking can have a deterrent effect.

Important points to note about outdoor cameras and security floodlights 

Whilst all these surveillance camera features are recommended, probably the most important thing is that the camera is visible.
A surveillance camera properly situated will of course give you downloadable images, but a professional intruder who intends to steal is unlikely to expose his face.

The following points are therefore crucial. 

You need more than one surveillance camera. If you have a front or rear garden with road access, then a covert camera which shows the street would be useful. 

Prominent dummy surveillance cameras are also an essential part of any outside camera surveillance system, providing they are top end, and look real. 

Most important of all, you do not neglect to ensure your home is secure. Double window locks, door locks are essential, and ensuring all windows and doors are securely locked every time you go out, especially if you come and go at the same time every day. In addition do not leave prized possessions sitting in a window, especially if they are objects of value, because you can be sure someone will see them. 

An intruder alarm need not be expensive, even just a box on the wall adds to the deterrent

A professional doesn’t want difficulties, but equally you must not go for overkill. A large number of visible cameras also says you have something to protect that is valuable, and no system in the world can protect you from a professional thief.
