Basically it is very simple. You can have one or several wireless cameras that simultaneously transmit video images to a receiver which links to a computer.

You will need a DVR receiver to pick up the signals, this can be separate or in some cameras, and you will also need a stable version of a surveillance software which lets you monitor, store, and transfer files, so you can see the results live on your PC or laptop 

You will also need disc storage space which could mean a dedicated hard disc especially with multiple cameras where you will need an enormous amount of memory as much as 1TB. 

Is it better to buy the items individually for your wireless security camera system. 

If you like the hassle then buy the items individually and set them up yourself, but it is far easier to buy an of the peg wireless security camera system.
