wireless security cameraWireless Security Camera System Reviews

____________________________________________________________________________

Owning and using an outside security camera makes total sense. A visible surveillance system will deter a thief 9 times out of 10, and a wireless security camera system is used increasingly to:

           Deter unwanted visitors

Identify who is outside your    house, and in your garden.

Give you peace of mind, and a feeling of security

There are different Wireless Security Cameras, dependent on what the consumer needs. The wireless motion activated camera which works when specific movement is detected. The wireless night vision security camera, which as its name suggests ‘sees in the dark’. The wireless dome camera, for 360 degree coverage. The wireless covert camera, ideal because it can be virtually invisible. These four types will be discussed in more detail later.

How does a Wireless security Camera System Work?

Wireless security cameras are essentially closed-circuit television  cameras[CCTV] They work using a video and audio signal, which is sent to a wireless receiver through a radio band, and not down an electrical connector. Having said that it must be understood that many wireless security camera systems require at least one cable or wire to be plugged in to a mains socket for power. The word "wireless" refers to the transmission of video/audio. You can buy battery powered wireless security cameras with no wires at all. This article will look at both types.

Advantages of wireless surveillance

Wireless cameras have become very popular because they don’t cost much to install, so they are cheaper. You don’t need expensive video extension cables, which means there are a lot more places you can position them, compared to the standard wired security camera.

Types of Wireless Security Cameras

         1.   Analog wireless security camera

Analog wireless means the audio and video signals are transmitted using radio frequencies with a range of about 90 metres, approximately 300 feet, but this of course is where there are no obstructions. You need to realise that walls, doors, and furniture will dramatically reduce the range.

Analog wireless security cameras operate using three frequencies.. The majority operate at 2.4 GHz. Unfortunately that is the same frequency as household routers, cordless phones, microwaves, and video game controllers use, and so there may be some interference with the wireless camera system. If the analog system works at 900MHz then there will be no interference. The 5.8GHz wireless system equally doesn’t interfere with any household appliances.

Pros and Cons of the Analog Wireless Security Camera System

       A.  Pros

It is affordable, because the low cost of the wireless camera.
A big benefit is the fact that the signal from one camera can be picked up by more than one receiver. This means you can see what the camera is picking up from different receivers in different locations, which gives you better surveillance

           B. Cons

They can suffer interference from other household devices, such as microwaves, cordless phones, video game controllers, and broadband routers.
A big drawback is that they may not be secure if the waveband is the same as used by neighbours, who might be able to pick up the transmissions.
The quality of video isn’t great, nor is the audio reception, and it can get worse if the wrong waveband is used.

2. Pros and Cons of Digital Wireless Security Cameras

Digital wireless is the transmission of audio and video analog signals encoded as digital packets over high-bandwidth radio frequencies.

        A.  Pros

They are 100% secure, so your neighbours cannot pick up the signal on a radio.
They have a wide transmission range up to 450 feet assuming there is nothing between camera and receiver.
You get a high quality video and audio, with a two-way communication between the camera and the receiver.

A big advantage is that the digital signal means you can transmit commands and functions, such as turning lights on and off. This of course convinces people the house is occupied

B.  Cons

There is only one, and that is the digital wireless security camera system is usually more expensive than similar analog setup.
